My Secret Obsession

Finally, a photo of my secret crush!  I spotted the  Provence Dining Table about a month or so ago at Cost Plus.  I tried to take a picture of it with my cell phone, but it just didn’t do it justice.  I came home and wanted to share it all of you, but it wasn’t online yet.  I’m always looking for cost effective items that look expensive for a great price.  That’s why I love West Elm’s parson table.  It’s just one of those pieces that looks good wherever you put it.  Plus, I personally like multi-functional pieces.  When you’re on a budget, it’s important to have a good eye and to know where to splurge and where to save your money.

I have a natural affinity towards chocolate brown pieces and shy away from lighter wood.  However, when I saw this piece, I couldn’t help but like it.  It wasn’t that icky light brown wood…it was the perfect washed colored (similar to when something is pickled).  You could mix it with anything and use it as a desk or a dining table.   I don’t care for the matching chair look and tend to mix things up. I welcome the idea of using four wicker chairs (two on both sides) and large fabric chairs for the ends of the table.  The fabric ones combined with the wicker chairs make it more eclectic and warm and keep it from looking stark and generic. The bench can be used with the table or on it’s own. One could put it at the end of a bed, on a porch, along a wall for additional seating.   It’s versatile. I can picture this table already in a room with a big banana leaf tree in a corner, one of those vintage wine jugs or a large urn on the table, sisal rug, etc.   Coming from a person that loves chocolate brown, I  love this table!

Hi - between your blog and Cote de Texas, my design obsessions become validated. I have been looking at these rattan dining chairs and rustic tables for some time now and I'm glad to know that others love them too. I plan on making my own table (from an old table top that I have) and either old newel posts or other architectural remnants that I can find - and then painting and distressing it (since I am a decorative artist and can replicate the finish that is so costly!) It will be less than $1200 for sure. I just have to get my husband on board to do the carpentry!

Thanks for your posts and your blog!
